Wave Personality & Sentiment · Lesson 1 of 6

Wave 1. The Move Nobody Believes.

Wave 1 is the move nobody believes. It emerges from the ashes of a completed bear market or sharp correction, when sentiment is darkest, news flow is most negative, and the crowd is most convinced the downtrend continues. Volume is often low. The few who recognize it for what it is - the quiet beginning of a new trend - position before the rest of the market catches on. The personality of W1 is the personality of contrarian opportunity: hidden in plain sight, dismissed by the majority.

Rule violated: Wave 4 cannot enter Wave 1's territory
Bear market low Preceding downtrend W1 emerges from the END of a bear market. The reversal happens before the news catches up. SENTIMENT: FEAR - Pessimism still dominant - Recession fears peak - Sellers still confident - Bear sentiment near extremes Mass sentiment during W1: pessimism dominates. The crowd is most wrong precisely when conviction is highest. "Dead cat bounce - more downside ahead" - typical headline near W1 start "Recession risks remain elevated" - macro commentary during W1 "Smart money still on the sidelines" - sentiment indicators stay bearish News during W1 still bearish - reporters look backward. Reality lags price. W1: low conviction = low volume W3 later: trend confirmed, volume up Volume during W1: weak. The trend is real but participation is thin. Heavy volume arrives in W3. SELL SELL CROWD BEHAVIOR: - "Sell the rally" mentality - Bear market shorts squeezed late - Real buyers = informed minority The crowd sells into W1, expecting the downtrend to resume. Smart money positions quietly. TRANSITION: W1 ends, W2 begins W2 retracement appears to confirm bears. But it does not break the W1 low. W1 ends, W2 retracement begins. Bears get false confirmation. Next lesson: W2 personality. W1 personality: doubted, dismissed, sold into - yet structurally undeniable. The contrarian opportunity hidden in plain sight. 1 2 3 4 5
